Do I need a passport to visit Canada?

After January 23, 2007 everyone crossing the Canada-USA border by air is required to have a valid passport. This is not the case yet for entering by land crossing.

When crossing the Canada-USA border by land or sea, Americans and Canadians can continue to use such documents as their birth certificates and drivers’ licenses for at least another year, although Canada Customs likes to see a passport.

All American visitors, including children, should possess identification (e.g., passport, birth certificate, photo ID driver’s license).

For more information about requirements to come into Canada please see Canada Border Services Agency.

How long is the fishing day?

The usual day’s schedule is breakfast from 7 to 8 am, fishing from 8 am returning at 5 pm in time to clean up and have a drink before dinner at 7 pm.

Are you Canadian?

Yes we’re proud Canadians.

Can you accommodate special dietary requirements?

Yes, but we’d appreciate advance notice to accommodate your dietary requirements. For more information about meals at Birch Island Resort, please see the Dining page on this website.

Do I need a fishing guide?

We always recommend a guide on a first visit to Birch Island Resort. The Winnipeg River System is a vast waterway composed of a chain of five connected lakes with no portage required (Gunn Lake, Little Sand Lake, Big Sand Lake, Pistol Lake, Roughrock Lake). On this system, the fishing conditions change according to time of year and the flow of the river. The guides fish the system every day and can keep you on the best spots where the walleye, musky, northern pike, and bass are biting. You are paying for a quality trip and your vacation time is important. Taking a guide assures that you make the most of it. If you prefer, you can hire a guide on a daily basis. For more information, please see the Guides page on this website.
