Fishing is fantastic! Smallmouth bass, walleye, northern pike and muskies are plentiful on the Winnipeg River System and its adjoining lakes. You do not have to travel far from our island to get your limits for the day but you will want to experience the big waters of the river system. We offer musky fishermen packages so they can experience their own musky hunts using their own boats and equipment and allowing them to hunt in the evenings when the muskies are waiting for them.
An on site tackle shop is complete with up-to-date tackle and fishing equipment.
Fishing licenses, bait and tackle are available at the Minaki Marina. To promote the preservation of our fishing for future generations, a conservation fishing license is included with all our packages.
The Minaki Marina is an authorized dealer of Shimano and St. Croix and has a good selection rods and reels. They are also an authorized dealer of Musky Mayhem lures for the serious Musky Hunter.

We are proud of our fleet of Lund fishing boats powered by Yamaha outboard motors. Our boats are comfortable, clean, safe, reliable and fully equipped.

Birch Island Resort guides are knowledgeable, enthusiastic and experienced. They are ready to advise you on tackle and equipment selection and know where the “hot spots” are. They will take care of your daily catch and their “shore lunches” will be the highlight of your trip.
We have placed great importance on all staff and particularly our fishing guides. They are professionals – plus fun to be with. As with our guests, our guides return year after year and some have been with us for over twenty years. From children to seniors they are happy to assist and teach you to ensure your fishing experience is a memorable one.
The fishing guides spend nine hours each day with our guests. They’ll advise you on proper baits and equipment selection and put you where the fish are biting.
Birch Island Guides prepare an excellent traditional shorelunch (fried fish with our own “secret” breading mix) or try one of the guide’s other culinary specialties including: poached walleye, baked walleye or pike, lemon-dill walleye, blackened walleye or pike, or fish chowder.
If you choose to take fish home, your guide will fillet, wrap and freeze them and package them for your trip home.
Shore Lunch
A traditional northern Ontario fresh fish shorelunch is the highlight of many fishing trips to Birch Island Resort. The sights and smell of golden walleye sizzling in the pan, served with all the trimmings.
